The area in which I live is rich with natural beauty. To the south of me I have the great wilderness of the Adirondack mountains to the south of me, a view of the not often seen Northern Lights to my north. To the east I have historic Lake Champlain ( home of the legendary Champy) and the Green Mountains of Vermont.
I have witnessed the raging Saranac river foaming with the water of a hundred year flood partially incurred by hurricane Irene. As I child I saw the forest bend and break to the fury of the Ice Storm of ’98. Capturing the smoke of the Canadian fires roll onto Lake Champlain. It’s also pretty cold here for more of the year than not, so when spring and summer ( in particular ) arrive I am out to appreciate the treasures the seasons change brings to me. This is a collection of those travels.
A collection of assorted greenery and flora that have captured me. Some are wildflowers, some have been styled and arranged. In the garden or the deep woods. Ferns, fall leaves, fungi and more. Many of them have their own personality, though often overlooked by many. In my work I am tethered to my subject for an instant as I express myself through them. Not only can I showcase the essence of their life, I can also tie it to mine.
Water, liquid, interactions, their forms or anti-forms. The cool forms of ice or the dynamic interplay of light on a soap bubble. The motion, the freezing. The unpredictable beauty and science behind the various interactions are a great delight for me to capture. Another way to show you the marvel of what I see and the poetry in the motion.
As I live, in my minds eye I see things. Mundane things that have a hidden quality or charm about them. Seeing the parts sometimes as opposed to the whole can be both intriguing and enlightening . How it fits, how things work together. Sometimes things are more than they seem, endlessly complicated and many times imperfect. Knick-knacks, details here and there. Some times bold, sometimes somber. A great lightness can be felt as can a deep sorrow. Many qualities, but all a part of my vision.
These are some of my self portraits.I'm no model,I don't have any disillusionment there, just some personal expression, some vanity and the pictures in the various dresses ( at the end of the album) were for second hand prom dresses and I thought ( and I still think was correct) that I could take better photos of me in the dresses than the volunteer could.lol
